these are the times
turning on a dime
for better or worse
a joy or a curse…it is what it is
I was replying to a friend’s email when the phrases above tapped themselves out on the keyboard. She was telling me about the anticipated but sudden need to move her elderly mother into a seniors’ residence.
At ninety-two, her mother had been managing very well with family and community supports. Now suddenly, the turning on a dime – from being healthy to now not so, from living in her home, to now not so. All made a bit more complex by the distance of several continents and oceans, and the family dynamics that predictably rear their heads during such times of transition and crisis.
My friend remarkable for the rich and adventurous life she’s created for herself, her finely tuned social conscience, and this, her thoughts about the matter: “so I wait to see if I can provide support…a little wearing too…but it will all pass and work itself out…”
Grace under pressure is what comes to mind. May we all be blessed with it in these times.
